A Message For The World...From Boston

No more hurting people...Peace.

Ticking Time Bomb

I say we are all sitting on a ticking time bomb which may go off any moment. Two weeks back, we were without light in my area for a whole week and I heard we are even lucky as we have some areas in this State that had been without light for 2years! Thank God for the kind inventors of generators, inverters and batteries, life would had been unbearable.

I Met A Masquerade

File Picture I met a masquerade..literally

Another Day...Another Woman Slain

I got home from work yesterday evening and decided to rest a bit before making dinner. I picked up a copy of the Punch newspaper Hubby dropped on the sofa and was lazily browsing through the pages when I came upon this sad story that got me wishing I had headed straight to the kitchen to make dinner first.

Coping With Sibling Rivalry (& retaining my sanity)

Credit Long rambling alert................. I remember vividly the night we first brought D2 home from the hospital. D1 had been the center of our lives for 2 years and if I expected him to gleefully jump at the sight of this tiny wrinkly fussy pink creature, then I had another thing coming.

A Story of Love...For YOU.

Once upon a time...time time... there were thirteen friends who walked the surface of the earth. Everybody knew them because they went everywhere together, visited each others homes, studied together, prayed together, organized tutorials for people and ate together. So great was the love that existed among them. They were like a team and they had a team leader who was like a captain, in fact they called Him Captain. He was very sound, all round and very rich too. His Father is the owner of the land and everything that existed in the land but he was given to not-so-rich and simple guardians to learn the ways of the not-so-rich world. Captain it was who took charge of directing and teaching the members of the team; he taught them the acts of service, living right, speaking right and doing good. Captain had a mission and dream which his friends / team members shared and supported -to change the world, rid the world of all ills and illnesses, give hope...

Meet Betty...

Warning: This post is actually ''2 in 1''!   Number One   I first met Betty in September, 2012 at a time I needed a friend to encourage my latest exploit / passion.   Immediately I set my eyes on her, we took to each other like fish to water and I had no choice than to bring her home with me; providing the much needed shelter and a safe haven from the extreme loneliness she must have endured.   She had since found a permanent abode with me. I see her everyday and we commune, heart to heart at least once in a week.    She has been faithful, never complaining no matter what she is subjected to, ever cheerful, tough and dependable.    Sweet sweet old Betty.   Meet her after the cut.

Kids and Cartoons

D1 is presently writing his second semester..sorry, second term exams after which the school will go on break for at least 2 weeks or more. Nothing changes for me though as both boys would have to make do with staying at the creche during the break. Mum & dad gotta keep working now. The week has been full of revisions and reviews though that doesnt stop them from watching cartoon while I am busy making dinner. I remember before D1 started his 3rd term exams last year, his teachers practically begged me to please stop him watching cartoons at home. Their reason?

A Tale of Two Great Men

Prophet T.O Obadare Growing up in Akure, the Ondo State capital was fun and the memories will always be held dear. Also, growing up was without the perks of the present day. For instance, there were few colour TVs back then, fewer computers, no cable TV, no GSM to mention a few of the priviledges we take for granted in the present day. Back then, we were members of the St. Stephens's Anglican church where mum and dad were very active members and after service every sunday evening at 4pm, one voice and face that was a weekly constant on the State TV (OSRC) was that of prophet T.O Obadare. He was very much part of my growing-up. Even though he was visually challenged, yet his personality and spirituality was so strong that thousands would travel from far and near just to listen and watch him speak and preach during his monthly “ Koseunti ” crusades.

FACT OF LIFE: TIME REALLY DOES FLY

The flower that you hold in your hands was born today and already it is as old as you are. ~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin Sometimes I imagine how beautiful it would be to hold time in my hands. To have absolute control over it, to be able to stop the moving hands feverishly working tirelessly to keep the world going. How beautiful it would be to be able to stop the ticking for an instant when we need to savor the sweetness of the present; to be able to wound back the hands when we need to correct or undo what was done in the past and to be able to fast forward it to peep into the future. Thankfully, time is not within our control and better for us too, because this world would be chaotic if we were all to be in charge.

Of Gov. Godswill Akpabio and His Generosity..

Source It is no longer news that Innocent Idibia aka Tuface and Annie Macaulay celebrated their traditional wedding last weekend neither is it news any longer that the state governor of Akwa Ibom promised the couple a car gift during the celebration. What is news however is the fact that the car gift has finally been handed over to the couple as promised by the state governor. Personally I have no issue with Tuface & Annie accepting this gift, a gift is afterall what it is..a gift and a symbol of the goodwill and loving heart of the giver.  Also bearing in mind that it was unsolicited and Tuface could very well procure any vehicle(s) of his choice without batting an eyelid, I still find it difficult to put the pieces together.

Celebrating My Superwomen

Today, March 8 is the International Women's day and what better way to celebrate than to recognise the numerous women of honor that have made impacts in their chosen fields of endeavor. About the International Women's Day The IWD is the day set aside globally to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women, past, present and future; it is  celebrated annually on March 8 everywhere across the globe. In some countries like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. It is in addition to celebrating accomplishments or achievements of women also to remind all women of the inequalities or inequities that are still unaddressed globally. The importance of women in the society cannot be overemphasized actually...yes, we run things, we run the world.

All hail the kings...of the road..

Just want to share my encounter with one of the ' damfo' drivers on my way from work this evening. I Was driving slowly, taking my time to savour the rare pleasure of a 'trafficjam-free' evening while quietly humming to a song playing on the CD player. Was driving on the left side of the dual service lane like we know it while on my right was this yellow mini bus, directly cruising beside me. A car was in front of the bus already 'trafficating' to turn into one of the streets off the main road we were travelling on. All of a sudden, without any form of warning, the damfo beside me just veered onto my lane, almost taking my fender with him! Thankfully, my horn was okay and the brake was in good condition and I did put both to good use as the ocassion demanded. Now, for those who are familiar with the city of Lagos and the intriguing damfo drivers, you would know they never have trafficators and some have actually perfected the art of making use of their ha...

Heart talk...(Part 1)

Stop Press Ladies....and Gents. The media has been agog recently with the news of the sudden demise of our own Goldie, at 31. Quite young. She has been laid to rest earlier today. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Cause of death: Hypertensive heart disease that triggered Intracerebral Haemorrhage . Long and nasty name for a dreadful disease, full stop. Just read another sad news on Daily Mail a few minutes ago about a 19 year old promising woman, Charlotte Mayes who passed on late in 2012. Very young. Cause of death: Undetected heart ailment -  hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which causes a thickening of the heart muscle forcing it to work harder to pump blood. Both were relatively young, beautiful with dreams, shinning aspirations, lofty ambitions and their whole lives ahead of them before death came calling.

Oscar and Reeva...

I have keenly followed the Oscar / Steenkamp 'case' since the avoidable tragedy occured on February 14, same day Nigeria lost Police. Murder or accident, nothing changes the fact that a father has lost his daughter in the most cruel circumstances; Réeva's siblings and friends would never again hear her talk or laugh anymore. If you are reading about this for the first time, this happened in far away South Africa on February 14. Oscar (who is also known as the 'blade runner') is the South African Olympian/Paralympian who shot to fame / stardom during London 2012 Olympic games

2nd Month Already..

Howdy.. Bet that should be 'happy new year'. Even though its belated but like they say - better late than never. Phew. 2012 was filled with lots of blessings, joy, tragedies all around the world, stress, ups and downs, travails, gloom, boko haramic terror, insecurity within and without; but hey, we made it through and here we are today, in the second month of 2013 already. I heartily congratulate myself and you for making it this far, more joyous years to come by His Grace. And after my 7+ month hiatus from this page, it does feel good to be back. Missed this space a lot, more than I care to admit. Lets do it..again..this year. Wish you all joy, health, healthy friendship, security, favor that accompany open doors, actualized dreams, and lots more this year. Lets go work on our dream. We will get there cos we can. Abiola.

Abandoned to Die: Latest Offshoot of China and the One Child Policy

Just read this on Daily Mail and it kinda messed with my head, still trying to comprehend how a human can do this to an innocent, helpless child that did not ask to be conceived in the first place. A newborn baby girl was left to die in a plastic bag with her throat cut in China's Liaoning province. The baby still had her umbilical cord and placenta attached and was discovered by a man scavenging in the bin for recyclables who alerted local residents and the police.

ME, MYSELF & I

I have been away from here for so long and I sincerely (hands covering my face) apologize for that. Truly wish I could devote more time, but , hey, I am here now. Human Resources Management and Marketing Management took the better part of me for a whole month; just submitted my assessments so I have some time on my hands before the next assessment period. (I -hand on chest- pledge to leave further studying to D1 and D2, God help me. Amen) As I drove in to work this morning, doing the reverse move to position my 'yansh' very well at the parking lot; frantically looking in the two side mirrors simultaneously to avoid 'batching' the Toyota Corolla 2010 model parked beside my slot and finally getting it right, turned off the ignition. Then..I saw this nice 'chicky' looking brown-with-white-spots-beautifully-crafted-all-over-her-body feline wonder..a cat strolling by.

Human Placenta: Yummy or Yuck?

The internet has been agog with what I term the 'Placenta Controversy' in recent times. Imagine you were a woman who just came home after the long and arduous task of heralding your cute bundle into the world. Pining for a hot meal of home made soup after the dry meal you had to put up with at the hospital.

Unbreak My Ankles

Just went to check out some books at the bookstore nearby; going in through the gate striding towards the store, who did I see but this pretty diva-wannabe-fashion-conscious-to-the-point-of-torture young woman. Now, why did I, like almost everyone else making their way into the mall rest my gaze on this pretty diva-wannabe-fashion-conscious-to-the-point-of torture young woman?
