Three –month old baby, five others abducted in Delta
Six members of a family, including a three-month-old baby were at the weekend kidnapped by armed men in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the victims were abducted while leaving their home located around Oru Standard Hotel, Jakpa Road, on Saturday afternoon, in a Honda CRV Sport Utility Vehicle.
The three children (aged two, four and 14 years) were later abandoned in a nearby bush in Ughelli area of the state.
The release reportedly followed persistent wailing by the two-year-old.
The whereabouts of the three month-old baby, her mother and another victim, said to be related to the family, remained unknown at the time of this report on Monday afternoon.
However, our correspondent gathered that the fate of the victims assumed a dramatic twist on Sunday after members of the family reported the incident at the Ekpan Police Station, much to the anger of the kidnappers, who had earlier warned them against going to the police.
“Immediately the matter was reported at the police station they called to tell us (family members) that we have gone to the station, the station, how many persons went to the station and what transpired there.
“Thereafter they refused to negotiate with the family and even upped the ransom from N5million to N11million. What is surprising to us now is how the kidnappers knew everything that transpired at the police station,” a source close to the family wondered.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, who was contacted, said he was yet to get details on the issue.
